Searching for new HR application software, how many vendors should you review?

Choices for HR application software are many but how do you know when you are reviewing too few or too many options?  

Thinking about how you may make other substantial decisions in your life, aren’t you usually open to all options that you find before you start making a ‘short’ list of what criteria are truly important?  Well, it’s that way when you start looking for HR Systems software.  You start out with a broad list of wants or needs and then you start to narrow your field to those functions that are the most important.  These new criteria determine how many HR applications you rule out before moving to the decision making phase. 

If you are looking for a concrete number to start with, this experienced former HRM Software Consultant suggests no more than ten HR solutions.  This, of course, is assuming there are ten HR Information Systems or HR Management Systemsystems that meet your preliminary overall needs.  As you move forward through the HRIS HRMS software selection process, this number will organically decrease because you continue to refine your selection criteria.
