There are two parameters which have to be taken into consideration when you want to use employee tracking system.

    1. When you are company strength is more than 30
    2. If you suspect’s your employee’s commitment and lack of passion in their jobs.

Even companies with less than 50 employees might have a need for an ATS as they might have a large turnover of staff, e.g. fast food outlets, small security companies etc.

In this case the ATS would actually give a huge ROI as there would be very little need to advertise on job boards and in the media so reduced costs all around because of the ability to search the candidate database for suitable applicants. Plus, a good ATS will have a Job Agent feature, where potential candidates can register for a role that would interest them and as soon as that role is published to the ATS an automatic email goes to the candidate telling them to apply as a vacancy has been advertised.

An ATS system can also show your company to be very professional in how they process candidates. There’s nothing worse than a job seeker applying for a job to be told that due to the high volumes etc etc if you don’t hear from us, well sorry in advance … terrible.

Another key consideration relates to legislation and legislative requirements. Within the EU, employers are required by law to track and monitor employee hours and time & attendance, making some form of ETS necessary for compliance purposes.

This is driving a large number of purchasing decisions within the HRIS and T&A markets.

ATS works well with any size company, agreeing with the high turnover comment, but if a goal of a company is to grown, despite these current times, ATS will only help. IF you pick the right system, one that is modular and fully customizable, then you are off to a good start. Sure there are free ones, but they only offer so much functionality and for the time invested, as well as cost, you want something that will fit your needs, where you don’t have to change your system to fit it. You want something that integrates, has assessments, works from the actual posting, internally, of a job requirement, through the on-boarding process. Anything less really is a full system.

Theoretically, as many people as you are tracking. Practically, it is limited by the speed of your network and how much information is being carried across.
