If you have not done so yet, I highly recommend that you download our HRIS buyers Guide. With this document, I laid out a 10 step process for selecting HR Management Software, HR Information Systems, HR solutions or HRMS software programs. Select the link below to download the entire document.
Ten Steps
- Improve your knowledge of what today’s HRIS and HRMS systems are capable of. Use sites such as our HR software article library to get a crash course in HR software.
- Determine your HRIS, HRMS or HR Software needs. This is without question the most important step of the whole process. Read our “What does Determine your Needs mean?” article to receive additional tips on determining your needs.
- Create a needs spreadsheet – Down the left side write a list of the options, features and needs that must be met. Across the top add the HRIS vendors.
- How much can you spend? Make sure you don’t have Benz needs with a Honda budget.
- Pick a handful of vendors to evaluate. Our HRIS Selection Tool makes this step easy. This tool is why we created CompareHRIS.com. We felt the internet needed a tool like this and we could not find one, so we created it. The tool will also prove beneficial with determining your needs.
- Evaluations and Demos – As you evaluate each system, use your spreadsheet to score each product.
- Research your HR software short list – How many installs does the company have? How long have they been in business? Make sure to check references on the software, support and the implementation service.
- Create your Implementation expectations and price. If you run over budget on the implementation the most obvious reason why is that expectations were not set before project began.
- Make your decision – With your spreadsheet and the research, this step should be pretty easy.
- Getting management Approval – Our HRIS article library has a number of well written articles on this subject.
